Circular Woven Fabric Roll Length: Define the Delivered and Usable Quantity

A circular woven fabric roll length is meaningful only when the buyer and supplier agree on the material counted, its measurement condition and any excluded sections. A production counter, a roll label and the usable fabric available to a bag-making process can describe different quantities. Put these definitions in the delivery specification before comparing a weaving trial or accepting a roll.

Zhejiang Kangjia Machinery Co., Ltd. lists the MY-YZJ-850/6S six-shuttle small-cam circular loom for woven packaging. Its product page describes circular weaving as converting prepared flat tape into tubular woven fabric and asks buyers for folding width, tape details, weave and downstream bag requirements. A roll-length agreement connects that fabric specification with the quantity delivered.

Decide which length the purchase order means

Start with the purchasing unit. Length along a tubular fabric roll is a longitudinal measurement; flattening the tube creates two layers but does not double that longitudinal length. If the buyer orders cut-open fabric instead, describe the delivered form explicitly. Do not silently convert one form into another on a delivery note.

Separate total wound length from usable length. The first may include sections marked for inspection, sampling or removal. The second depends on the agreed treatment of those sections. A supplier cannot report a useful usable-length figure until both parties define which material qualifies and whether separate usable sections are acceptable.

Also state whether the requirement applies to each roll or only to the shipment total. Ten rolls whose combined length meets an order might still be unsuitable if individual rolls fall below a minimum needed for a converting run. Keep the individual requirement and the shipment reconciliation in separate fields.

Describe the measurement condition and reference

Agree how the fabric will be presented during measurement. Material under pulling force may not have the same measured length as relaxed material. The relevant method should describe handling and tension conditions rather than relying on an instruction such as measure normally. The buyer and supplier should select a method suitable for the fabric and intended decision.

A machine counter reading is evidence from a particular measuring arrangement. Record its unit, start and finish readings, any reset and the identified measurement device. Confirm how the indication has been checked for the intended material. A display with many decimal places does not by itself establish measurement accuracy or an acceptance tolerance.

If a receiving check uses a different arrangement, agree in advance how the two results will be compared. Keep original readings and the method descriptions. When a discrepancy appears, first examine units, start points, excluded sections and handling conditions before assuming that one party supplied too little material.

Keep exclusions visible in a roll ledger

A simple ledger can show roll identification, measured total length, separately recorded exclusions and the resulting agreed usable length. Every exclusion needs a reason and a location reference. An unqualified deduction for defects is difficult to review because the reader cannot tell whether the same section has been deducted twice.

For an illustrative accounting example, a recorded total of 1,000 metres with 12 metres of agreed, non-overlapping exclusions gives 988 metres of usable fabric under that definition. These numbers are an example, not a Kangjia production result or a recommended allowance. If two exclusion categories overlap, calculate their combined affected length before subtracting.

As a general shop-floor practice, attach a roll identifier to the inspection sheet and mark each excluded interval with a start and end reference. Photograph the corresponding material marker when it is accessible under the approved handling procedure. This connects the deduction to a physical location without asking the receiver to reconstruct it from a vague comment.

Choose a receiving check that can resolve a disagreement

A receiving plan should identify which rolls are checked and what that sample represents. Checking one convenient roll does not establish the length of every roll in a shipment. Agree the selection method, the information retained and the response when a result falls outside the agreed requirement.

A mass-based estimate needs additional assumptions about fabric mass per area, width and the material included in the weighed package. Cores, wrapping and other packaging affect gross mass. Such an estimate can support an investigation, but it should not automatically replace the agreed length method or be presented as a direct measurement.

For a general receiving comparison, place the supplier roll label, delivery-line identifier and receiving measurement record together in the evidence file. Retain the original label photograph before adding local markings. Recording both results against the same roll prevents a shipment-total discussion from being confused with a single-roll discrepancy.

Turn the agreement into a useful loom inquiry

Send the required fabric construction and delivered roll form together with the roll-length definition. Explain the downstream process, any minimum continuous usable section and the planned acceptance method. Ask which measuring and winding arrangements are included in the proposed configuration; do not assume that a catalog photograph proves a particular counter or control function.

Record tolerances and dispute-resolution steps in the agreed specification rather than inventing a universal percentage. If the counter and receiving method remain unresolved, label that point as pending. A useful approval states exactly which trial rolls and measurement conditions were reviewed, leaving untested products and production conditions outside its scope.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: Does tubular fabric have twice the stated roll length?

A: No. Two flattened layers do not double the longitudinal distance along the roll. Describe the delivered form and use the agreed length unit; area calculations are a separate matter.

Q2: Can the weight on a delivery note prove the roll length?

A: Weight alone is insufficient. Any estimate requires a justified fabric basis and removal of packaging mass. Use the agreed direct or indirect method and retain its assumptions.

Q3: Should all defective sections be deducted automatically?

A: Follow the agreed classification and usable-length definition. Identify affected intervals, avoid overlapping deductions and show how the accepted total was calculated for each roll.
